This Time
There are tracks that arrive like a slow exhale, and then there are tracks that sneak up on you and leave you staring at the ceiling wondering what just happened. Bryce Alakai's "This Time" is the latter.
It opens the way a good dream does. Hazy, unhurried, with pads that drift like early morning light through half-closed blinds. There's a trance current running underneath the whole thing, which becomes quite obvious during the buildup, but it's a good flavour to add a sprawl of energy.
If you know Droeloe's approach, that precise almost architectural way they structure a drop where every element hits with intention, you'll recognize the energy immediately. The bass doesn't just land, it settles. The percussion cuts through the haze and suddenly the whole thing transforms. Still emotional, still melodic, but with real weight behind it now.
This is the kind of record that reminds you why future house can be genuinely moving when someone takes the time to care about more than just the kick pattern. Keep an eye on Bryce Alakai. "This Time" is out now as an independent release on a streaming platform near you.
