Arkade: Destinations Iceland
Around 5 years ago Chicago native Ryan Raddon (you know him better as Kaskade) founded his own imprint Arkade. Ever since the label has grown and an entire collective of artists has found a home to showcase their talents. Apart from singles and albums, the collective joined forces for the first time around 2 years ago for their first compilation themed around Tulum in Mexico. Now the concept has returned, taking things to a significantly colder climate: Iceland. Spread across two discs, the compilation features a total of 27 new tracks, so you really want to spend some time with this one. Artists like Kaskade (obviously), Lipless, Bynon, Lökii, Mr. Tape, Zendlo, Late Night Alumni, Finnstagram, Frankie Shakes, Blue Noir, Sumrhaus and more are guiding you through the Icelandic wilderness with their unique and experimenting sound design, taking things in a radically different direction than you might expect. A good example of this is the track "Hallgrímskirkja Bells" by Mr. Tape, Finnstagram & Kaskade, playing with the bell sounds from the iconic church in the centre of Reykjavik. Another track that I found particularly fascinating was the rendition of Erik Satie's 1888 composition "Gymnopedie No. 1" by Classic Unknwn, Spooky Cowboy & Kaskade. The serenity coming from this classical piece of music, mixed up with electronic influences perfectly captures what Iceland can also be...a place of contemplation and peacefulness. You're in for a treat with this one, so kick back and enjoy Arkade Destinations Iceland...out today!
