Best of 2016

Phew, we made it to the end of 2016. MYWLT turned 5 and electronic music has taken over the music charts once and for all.  There has also been so much new talent popping up out of the blue, delivering some amazing and unforgettable tunes. Below I have highlighted my personal favourites, who I think made 2016 extra special.

Artist(s) of the Year: The Chainsmokers

You may love them or hate them, but Alex and Drew have without a doubt had the most success popularising dance music this year. I've heard their music play everywhere, in elevators and in public restrooms. Their releases have been incredibly consistent and they've climbed to the top on pretty much every single chart I can think of. With "Closer" feat. Halsey they were in charge of anthem of 2016...they've pretty much achieved it all. Most importantly though, they've stayed true to their concept and themselves, especially considering how many people try to judge and point fingers at them. Respect and congrats to you, Alex and Drew!

Upcoming: Gryffin

He might not have been the producer with the most releases in 2016, but his single "Heading Home" feat. Josef Salvat, which was released in January did mark a new beginning for Gryffin. Having had success before with his incredible remixes, his new original work really struck a chord with me. He later followed up with "Whole Heart" feat. Bipolar Sunshine, which was also a stellar release, but since them it has been a little bit quiet. However, I will take quality over quantity any day and I am confident we will hear much more from Gryffin in 2017.

On a side note, Gryffin is also responsible for the most hyped track on the MYWLT Hype Machine site, with his remix for CHVRCHES "Clearest Blue".

EP of the Year: Up All Night by Matt Dimona

The EP has somehow gained in popularity over the classic album format, hence I didn't include any "Album of the Year" in my list. That also makes it a lot easier for me to pick my favourite, which is this 5 track piece of happiness by Matt Dimona. With his dreamy, feel good electronica vibe, the young LA based producer has created a sound that has managed to calm me down in the most stressful situations throughout the year. That alone is quite an accomplishment. Thank you for making me survive Matt!

Remix Hero(es) of the Year: Two Friends

Most of the tracks I feature are remixes. They can be fun, awesome and sometimes better than the original version. Two Friends, Matt Halper & Eli Sones, have managed to release 10 incredible remixes. Their latest remix for Tove Lo's "Cool Girl" might be my favourite yet, but also their versions of "Heaven" by Shaun Frank & Kshmr and "Something Better" by Audien, did work particularly well in my opinion, while capturing their own signature sound and energy. Their singles "Forever" and "Overdose" with Exit Friendzone were also highlights for me and hopefully we'll be hearing more original work from them in 2017.

2016 is coming to a close and tomorrow's post will all about the MYWLT Best of 2016. Thus, this is the last regular post of 2016.

Let's start out with a new single from Haitian producer Michael Brun, who has teamed up with Ben Alessi for the track "U". With this cool, upbeat and bright sounding track, you have no excuse to celebrate a boring NYE party. The mix of dance and club vibe on this track is well balanced here, making it a proper feel good tune to start out the new year with. Give it a spin or check out the alternative stream via Spotify in the link below.

Up next is a remix for Emma Gatsby's "2 Steps" by White Cliffs. The chill out bounce vibe works remarkably well here in my opinion and that is also what got me so attached to this track. The instrumental is refreshingly different and it's definitely going into my NYE playlist for that cool alternative vibe that it has. Hit the play button below and stay tuned for tomorrow's post, where I will present the best of MYWLT 2016.

Caught Up

Let's check out a tune from L.A. based producer and singer Best Night Ever. Behind the name hides Tyler Arms, who with this track called "Caught Up", combines some experimental indie vibes, with some elements from future, trap and pop. The upbeat energy makes this is a positive sounding track perfect for your upcoming NYE party. All the proceeds from the sale of this single will go to the mental health charities The Trevor Project and Kids Help Phone in Canada, which is something that has impacted his own life. Give his cool single a spin and check out the link below for Itunes or alternative streams. Enjoy!

Tyzo Bloom, another LA based producer, is responsible for the next track called "Closer To You". The single is meant as a tribute to his moms dog Rocky, who ran away and was never seen again. Matching to this theme, "Closer To You" has a beautiful melody and melancholic vibe, capturing some sweet emotional elements. The vocal performance by JNNE is also A+ and enhances the vibe of the instrumental perfectly. Having listened to this track a number of times already, there's a great chance that this might become your next earworm too. Hit play and find out. There's a free download waiting for you over at Soundcloud too. Enjoy!

Do Watcha Gotta Do

Today's tune comes from LA based producer My Buddy Mike (Michael Geiger) called "Do Watcha Gotta Do". Perfectly blending a radio friendly dance instrumental with some catchy and earworm worthy lyrics is always a win in my opinion. The guitar chords add a nice and comforting vibe, while the drop/chorus gives the track just the right amount of energy. This being My Buddy Mike's first original single, "Do Watcha Gotta Do" is a solid and promising start. Hopefully we'll hear much more cool stuff from him in 2017. The single is out now and available for streaming or purchasing via the link below. Enjoy!

I almost didn't feel like posting anything today. 2016 has really been a shit year for music in terms of deaths. Too many amazingly talented musicians have left us.

However the show must go on and fortunately new talents pop up like mushrooms these days and so I came across this blissful single by Emma Sameth called 2AM. Her calming vocal and the atmospheric reverb gives this track a sweet, crisp, but also slightly melancholic vibe overall. The blend feels just right and it's easy to forget everything around you while listening. The producers DNTST and Berg did a good job here. There's even a music video for "2AM" and you can also download the track for free. Just check the link below.

Tell Me The Same

Merry Christmas and happy holidays. Hope you are spending time with your loved ones. Maybe you are here to find a cool jam to chill out to, maybe you feel like taking a break from the family already. Whatever the reason, let's start out with today's post.

The first track comes from Michl and is called "Tell Me The Same", here in the Midoca Remix. I love the alternative sound on this track and the downtempo vibe. It's an excellent track to calm down to and it has a refreshingly different and bold vibe. Even though the track starts out with a somewhat sad note, it lightens up eventually and becomes sweet as pie. Give it a spin and grab a free download via the link below:

If you were searching for something more upbeat though, then this is for you. Melbourne based producer Throttle spins up your Christmas party with a cool remix for Michael Bublé's "My Kind Of Girl". I can't think of a better and more fun loving track to post on Christmas Day. Good things come to those who wait and Throttle might just have delivered the best surprise of 2016 with this one. Cool Girl

Welcome to the weekend! It's Christmas and the season to be with family and friends.... or better yet Two Friends! :D The LA based duo just released an early Christmas present in the form of a remix for Tove Lo's "Cool Girl". Originally this track is dominated by a sweet and heavy sounding bass line, but Two Friends have made their version sound lighter, more upbeat and melodic, which works really well. Even though the guitar parts might give this remix an undeniable The Chainsmokers vibe this time, it is one of my favourite Two Friends tracks to date. Give it a spin...or two...or three...below and enjoy!

Merry Christmas everyone! :D

Broken Parts

Uhhh...not long until Christmas. Let's prepare with some cool new music! <:- div="">

First up is a track by Mokita and The Ready Set called "Broken Parts". With a superb atmospheric vibe and a combination of indie, trap and pop, this track manages to capture both emotion and energy perfectly. According to The Ready Set: “Broken Parts is about bonding over imperfections and finding beauty in accepting them". This isn't just a great message to bring across for Christmas, but also for the new year to come. Hit play and grab a copy or find alternative streaming options via the link below:

This next track isn't actually that oven fresh any more, but if you haven't had a chance to check it out either, then here's your chance. The duo Oliver have taken on Leon Else's track "Dance" and turned it into a celebratory feel good house tune. With a cool and funky sounding melody this tune will (just as the title suggests) get you dancing around the Christmas tree in no time. Monster 2.0

Ohaaaoeee Ohaoeee is what greats you when hitting the play button for UK based Jacob Banks' new track called "Monster 2.0" feat. Boogie. When listening to this track I can't help but feel that it sounds like a theme song for a big football tournament. "Monster" is a track that aims at getting you to shout along when the chorus hits, making it perfect to get any crowd to sing along.  This is also what makes this track stand out to me and makes it an instant earworm. Give the track a spin below and let out your inner warrior :)

Up next is a remix by NYC based duo French Horn Rebellion for Knox Hamilton's "Washed Up Together". While the original already has a vague hint of a nu-disco vibe, FHR takes this and turns it up to 11. The horns are also a welcome addition and give the track a more dance friendly vibe. Overall it's a super on point remix, which is nicely balanced and makes you feel good when listening to it. There's even a free download you can pick up. Just check the link below! Enjoy :)

Get Closer

XYLØ are definitely shifting. Having had huge success with their own music and most recently with "Setting Fires" together with The Chainsmokers, their latest single "Get Closer" has a lot to live up to. Having already set an unbeatable track record though, it doesn't come as a bit surprise that this new track is also incredibly awesome. With "Get Closer" the brother/sister duo capture their signature dark indie/electro sound in a fresh and catchy sounding melody. It all boils down into a very radio friendly piece of music that despite its simple structure stands out with the perfectionistic execution. Give it a spin below or catch the stream on Spotify.

Up next is a remix by a guy who you know never disappoints as well. This time Robotaki has taken turns with Gigamesh's "History". This being one of my favourite singles by Gigamesh to date, I went in thinking: "how can this possibly be improved"....we'll I can't. That being said, Robotaki has made a remix that is equally good, adding his classy sounding electronic twists to "History" and giving it a completely different flavour. Style wise I pick up a hint of influence from Shinichi Osawa, which is super cool. Make sure to hit play below and enjoy!

Canadian duo Paris & Simo recently dropped a new single feat. Gabrielle Current & Finneas called "Evermore" and even though it has been out for a month already, I think it deserves your attention. First of all the sound on this track is a refreshing departure from their typical progressive house style and just sounds dope. With some calming piano chords to set the mood, a soothing and atmospheric vocal performance and a cracking beat, this track manages to find a perfect balance, making it a very radio friendly club tune. Give "Evermore" a spin below or check out the Spotify link for alternative streaming. Enjoy.

Up next is a track by UK based Eden Prince. With a cool nu-disco vibe, the track "P.Y.T." or Pretty Young Thing makes you want to groove along from the first second. If you recognise the lyrics, then there's a good reason for that, since P.Y.T. is originally a hit by the king of pop, Michael Jackson. As such this track is a really sweet homage, brining a classic into the 21st century. Feel free to abuse the play button for this track below:

Champagne & Sunshine

I love Tarro & Plvtinum's track "Champagne & Sunshine", however in my opinion San Diego based producer Rad Cat has one up'ed it, by making it extra catchy. Combining the best parts of the original mix, while making the beat more prominent and adding a lighter and less deep sounding vibe, "Champagne & Sunshine" becomes the happy party track it deserves to be. So even if it's winter season where you are, warm up for the summer season with excellent remix. Grab a free download via the link below:

Up next is a remix by Spirix & Sep for Lost King's "Phone Down". I think we can all related to the problem with mobile phones, but the paradox is that you're probably reading this on your phone right now...or's the same to me. Either way, the song is pretty damn great either way and adding a darker vibe to the track really makes it stand out and underlines the problematic theme that the song brings up even more. Give it a spin below and then put your f*cking phone down.

Dear reader,

today it is exactly 5 years ago Music You Wanna Listen To was created. Yep...time certainly does fly. During this time I have posted 1.855 blog posts, most of them including some new and hopefully exciting music. For some strange reason, I have felt incredibly committed to upload a blog post every single day. This year was the first time I took a break though.

When I started out I didn't have much of a plan with the blog. My main goal was to support upcoming electronic music artists and share my personal favourites with the internet...full stop. This still lies in the DNA of the blog today.

That being said, the landscape has changed. While electronic music was steadily gaining in popularity in late 2011, it now dominates the popular music charts. During these years we've seen the rise of bedroom producers, transforming into world famous producers and DJs. Think of guys like The Chainsmokers, Zedd, Major Lazer, Avicii or DJ Snake, just to name a few. Of course these guys are now well established artists and Avicii has since retired (kinda). 5 years might now sound like a lot, but in music it's lightyears. HOLY SH*T this industry moves fast. Had I known how many submissions I would receive and go through every single day, I probably would have run away screaming. Getting to listen to so much new music all the time is both a curse and a blessing....mostly it's a blessing though.

If you have been able to discover new music via MYWLT, then thanks to you my goal for the blog has been achieved.

Thanks for sticking around, thanks for submitting music and a HUGE extra thank you to those who have supported the blog with a donation. I probably won't be able to make a living from blogging, but at least I can buy myself some lunch now.

Let's see what the next 5 years bring!

Yours truly,
Daniel // MYWLT

Let Me Fall

Today's first track is called "Let Me Fall" by the above depicted trio going by the name of Eko Zu. With a feel good and souldfilled electronica vibe this track grooves steadily along once you hit the play button. The instrumental reminds me slightly of some of Kaskade early work, but as soon as the chorus hits, everything spins into a more disco inspired rhythm, which feels oldschool cool. Although the band is based out of LA and SF, the bands origin story is a far more interesting read. Therefore I'll do something I have never done before, sharing a bite from their official press release:

"EKO ZU became known for exhibiting characteristic animal quirks, translating household pets for their human friends, in endless pursuit of world peace, equality and colorful balls of Yarn.
In bringing the sounds of the Eko Isle to our spirits, the Zu remind us to connect with the animal world, mother nature, the planet, the green spaces, the love places; to remember our inner ravens; to beat as one with the Heart of the Jungle."

I mean, I get to read some creative biographies every once in a while, but Eko Zu takes the prize. However, with music sounding as good as this, I'll happily buy their story. Give "Let Me Fall" a spin and grab a free download via the link below:

Up next is a track called "FHKD" by Honne, here in the Pat Lok remix. Not too long ago Pat Lok released a sweet and soulful downtempo remix for Gallant & James Fauntleroy's "Borderline", but with this new remix he takes things upbeat again. The energy on this track is A+ and the melody incredibly positive and danceable. If you're familiar with the original mix, the contrast between the these two version will blow your mind and thus it's a fantastic example of the concept behind a remix. For that reason I've included the original mix below. Try listening to both of them. Which one do you prefer? :)

Close Water

Kap Slap has been busy in the studio whipping up two super dope mashups. This is also what originally got him on my radar, so it's cool to get this early "back to the roots" style Christmas present. The first mashup is called "Closer Water" and I'll let you guess what tracks he used to make it (hint: more than the title suggests).

The second mashup is called "Heathen Thives Love Lamborghini's" and you'll notice it has a much more raunchy vibe than the track above. So no matter if you're a fan of a proper dirty electro sound or something more're now covered :) Grab a free download via the link below.

Ain't Giving Up

Munich based house music wizard Jetique is back with a rework for Craig David & Sigala's track "Ain't Giving Up On You" and it's fire. While the overall vibe has been maintained, Jetique makes sure to turn every knob up to 11, adding some extra energy and melodic elements to the track. Let's go one deeper with the next track, which is a remix for Of Monsters & Men's "Thousand Eyes" by LA based Parcel. The hypnotising deep house vibe is incredible and it kind of puts you into a state of trance (no Armin van Buuren puns intended). Turn this up loud enough and you'll feel that bass take over everything. The remix also has a nice balance, making sure to lighten up the vibe at the right times too. No need for any second opinion with a track as good as this. It's Sunday, so let's start out with some calming vibes from North Elements x Wayfarer and the track called "Break" feat. Denitia. The instrumental is composed using some very pleasant sounds that are soft sounding and give the track a nice balance. The melody gets quite melancholic thanks to the use of strings and the beautiful vocal also enhance that feeling. Even though the vocal has a slightly depressed tone, it makes the track overall sound very soothing, perfect for a Sunday afternoon easy listening session. Up next is a brand new remix from Lash. This time the duo have created a dark sounding version of K. Flay's "Blood In The Cut". Adding a trap inspired electro vibe works brilliantly with the original vibe and theme of the song. Having followed Lash for a while now, this remix is also exciting because it has a different sound profile. Maybe this is a direction they are going to pursue more in 2017, but we'll have to see...or rather listen :) Grab a free download via the link below:

Not Gonna Let You Walk Away

First of all, sorry to let you all hanging without a post Thursday and Friday. Time to make up for that with two cracking remixes!

The first one comes from Westcoast based duo Cherry Beach, who have created a refreshing and slightly tropical house sounding, feel good version of LOLO's "Not Gonna Let You Walk Away". Because of the tracks playful vibe and sound design, this track might give you a bit of a summer vibe, even if it's dark and wintery where you are. It certainly makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. The second remix that is in store for you today is from Amtrac & Blu Jemz for Mark Ronson's "Daffodils" feat. Kevin Parker. This isn't just any ordinary remix, but a special "night remix", hence the slowed down club and atmospheric vibe. For a track like "Daffodils", this kind of vibe works perfectly well though. The characteristic Amtrac bassline adds some nice depth as well and provides contrast to the vocal. Having always been a fan of the slightly overlooked "late night" sub-genre, getting to enjoy this treat by Amtrac and Blu Jemz is like Christmas came early. Just hit play and enjoy this relaxing, easy going and hypnotising tune.

Str8 Ballin

It's mid-week and there's light at the end of the tunnel. Soon the weekend is coming and what are you going to rock out to? What about this track by Benwah x TICES called "Stra8 Ballin". It's a bass heavy track with a fantastic hypnotising vibe and underground tone. With some Detroit house style synths, the track gets some contrast to the deep vibe and what is also interesting is that bouncing basketball sound, which works as a creative and refreshing type of percussion. Sleeping In

Soon the year is over and already now I am starting to look back, considering which tracks were truly hard hitting, memorable and timeless. However, sometimes the best things comes last. At leat in the case for Sean Turk, who has just released a remix which I think is his best to date. This time the NYC based producer has taken on Phil Good's track "Sleeping In", giving it a soulful and lush sound  that has an instant feel good vibe. The instrumental is quite simple and easy going and that is what speaks for it too. There are no crazy effects, no overkill energy or weird's just a damn fine remix and it's a free download too. So grab yourself a copy via the link below. Enjoy!

Let's stick with remixes for today, because Steve James is also back with a new one, this time  for FRND's "Friend". As always, Steve manages to work some excellent melodies that go incredibly well with the elements of the original track. The overall vibe matches some of his previous releases, so fans will recognise the energy and electro/indie influences. Even if you're fan of the original mix, you'll definitely still recognise the overall theme, even though "Friend" just become a much clubbier track overall.

Today's first track comes from Gallant and James Fauntleroy and it's called "Borderline". Maybe you already know this track, but have you heard the version by Pat Lok? If not, you're in luck. This remix might have been out for a short while already, but I still think it's worth pointing out. The future/chill vibe is super refreshing and I love how the bells in this track gives me Christmas vibes. I guess we can all agree that the track "Forever" by Vandalism & Tommie Sunshine is absolutely dopesauce, but what about this version by the duo LA Riots? Well...if it wasn't just as awesome, I wouldn't be featuring there's that.

With a classic house beat and a powerful driving bass lead, this remix packs a proper punch. It's not a particularly complex track, but it's another brilliant example of the concept "less is more". Let's continue with a track that has a bit more of a big room vibe. This track called "Reflection", coming from Dutch producer Marc Benjamin & DNMKG and featuring Jaicko Lawrence sounds like it came straight off an UMF aftermovie. It's also a track that gives me flashbacks to the early 10s, where this kind of music really started picking up. "Reflection" is one hell of an uplifting progressive house tune and it's just sitting here waiting for you to turn up the volume and annoy your neighbours.

Say hello to the guy above. He's called Sam Setton and is responsible for today's first track called "Stranger". It's an emotional and melodic indie/electro song, where the storyline brings you through the complexities of a tough breakup. The song was produced by Sainte and Lane Banning, who have done a perfect job at combining the instrumental and vocal together with the theme of the song. "Stranger" is also a very catchy track, so beware that this could become your next earworm. Just hit play and give it a spin right here below:

If you're looking for a slightly more clubby track for your Saturday night, then this track might be more up your alley. The track called "Energy" comes from Hawaii based producer Mahalo and with it's amazingly catchy synth pluck, it gives me an instant flashback to some of the big room house tunes of 2012. The vibe isn't aggressive or overly energetic though (despite the title name "Energy"). The heavy bass line makes sure to keep the track grounded and adds a bit of deep house vibe, which is nice. The vocal is delivered by Cat Lewis and in short it's a perfect match. "Energy" is out now via Armada Trice and available via most major music platforms. Enjoy!

Don't Manipulate

"Don't Manipulate" is the title of the latest single by U.S. based producer Almand. For this track he has teamed up with PG-13 and created a fresh, playful and catchy sounding club track that instantly puts you into a good mood. It's not a very challenging track to enjoy and the vibe quickly manages to make you autonomously nod back and forth to the rhythm. The vocal is also perfectly on point, but what I perhaps like the most is that awesome alternative intro. Give it a spin yourself below, grab a free download or check out the Spotify stream if that's your thing. Enjoy!

Up next is a brand new single from London based producer Dillistone. The track is called "Sober" and features Yellow (formerly known as AOSOON). The vocal and the instrumental speak the exact same language in my opinion and compliment each other beautifully. In short, this track is a superb earworm, waiting for you to smash the play button or pick up a copy via the link below.
